The guidelines pages give descriptions of new items as well as updated special notes about shoes, socks and general guidelines for boys' and girls' appearance. You will notice uniform shirts from previous vendors are no longer part of the uniform guidelines and will no longer be acceptable. Out-of-uniform and jeans day guidelines are also included in the handout. Please call the school if you have any questions. |

 Grades 1 - 5
Field Day and End of School Parties
Thursday, May 20 Field day and party events will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end with early dismissal at 12:15 p.m.
Location
Field Day activities will be held on the lawn behind (and between) the Education Building and Worship Center. Snacks Drinks and other refreshments will be provided by the PTF for students and parent volunteers. Dress Each student should come to the Field Day appropriately dressed - 2009-10 field day t-shirt, shorts (weather depending), tennis shoes, sunscreen, and a change of clothes (at least another shirt is a good idea). Sunscreen is a good idea even if the sky is overcast. Apply sunscreen before coming to school if possible. Make sure sunscreen is "good." It does have an expiration date and is not effective if it is old. Parents are Welcome We would love for you to come and watch your student participate, even if you can only stay for a while. Since there is no seating, we suggest you bring lawn chairs and/or a blanket. Please leave all pets at home. Weather If it rains, we will make an attempt to accommodate some events indoors. Pray for nice weather!
Volunteers Needed!
Harry Harwell is serving as the volunteer coordinator for the activities for grades 1 - 5. This event is not possible without the help of our super parent volunteers. If you would like to volunteer to help with set-up, supervision of an activity, snacks, or clean-up contact Harry at 634-4865. |

Dear Parents, This is the time of year when we celebrate another successful conclusion to school while at the same time, stepping up preparations for the fall. To begin, I would like to thank our parents for their great support this year. You have faithfully supported the classroom instructional goals and assisted the school in a multitude of volunteer tasks that would not otherwise have been accomplished. In addition, you have showered our teachers with many acts of kindness such as the appreciation luncheons that mean so much to our teachers in the midst of a busy day. Finally, you have regularly met to pray for our students, teachers, and staff, which is perhaps the greatest blessing of them all. On behalf of the teachers and staff, THANK YOU for your generosity, love, and support this year. As we look toward the new year, there are a few staff changes of which you will want to be made aware. Following is a summary highlighting those things:
- Within our Visual Arts Department, Dr. Hester is retiring next year, and Sue Spice will be teaching Art full-time at Woodland Presbyterian School. Replacing Dr. Hester and Mrs. Spice, is Amy Whiteside. Miss Whiteside has her BA in Studio Art out of the University of Memphis, and is herself an Alumni of Central Day School.
- In the PE Department, Jay Thompson will be replacing Dena Forbus, who is relocating with her husband to Florida. Jay will be teaching PE and serving as Assistant Athletic Director. Mr. Thompson has taught PE and coached at SBEC for the past ten years. He holds his BS degree in Education from Ouachita University in Arkansas.
- At Fifth Grade, Melissa Byrd will be replacing Joe Caruso who is moving on to pursue future areas of service within the Education/Coaching arenas. Mrs. Byrd holds her MEd in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M.
- At First Grade, Georgianne Daws will be replacing Bess Farris who has decided to be a stay-at-home mom. Georgiaane has at ECS for three years and holds her BS in Education from the University of Memphis.
- Finally, Jennifer Tosic and her husband have decided to move back to their home in Nebraska. Mrs. Tosic has taught computer to grades K-8, and we are still in the process of finding a replacement for that class.
Though is difficult to say good-bye to so many wonderful teachers, we are thankful to the Lord for His provision of such an outstanding group of replacement teachers. Our prayers are with those who are leaving and for those who will be taking on the baton of academic excellence with a Christian foundation at Central Day School. |
